Deventer is a city in The Netherland and a place that I used to call home. The ‘skyline’ of Deventer was a very familiar view for me for quite some time. Some of you might know Deventer from the film ‘A bridge too far’. The WW2 film tells the story of Operation Garden Market, that was intended to allow the Allies to break the line. The operation included the seizure of several bridges, including the one in Arnhem. For the purpose of the film, the bridge in Deventer was used. You can see the illuminated bridge in this weeks picture.
But there is more to Deventer than just the bridge and WW2. Having lived in Deventer and the area, there is a lot more to see and explore. The city itself has character and quite some history. In the town centre, there is a nice market square with cafés, bars, restaurants and a weekly market. During summer a number of open-air events are arranged.
This pictures was taken from the the other side of the river Ijssel, just a short walk away from the city over the famous bridge.
