What do you expect on an autumn walk? Colourful leaves, cobwebs, mushrooms… and caterpillars?? I wouldn’t have…
But we found this little dude on our short walk in Holly Hill Park yesterday. I think it is a Pale Tussok caterpillar. I’m not sure because all the pictures that I’ve found online show it with rather white hear and not brow or rose.
The caterpillar is quite remarkable and then it turns into a moth. Not less remarkable but less colourful and probably less beautiful in most peoples eyes.
It is not unusual to find this caterpillar at this time of the year, it is usually seen during late summer and autumn. To my surprise, I learned that it is poisonous. The hears contain a poison that can cause allergic reactions.
I’ve not just had a nice little walk, seen a lovely caterpillar but also learned something new 🙂
