This picture was taken about a year ago but fits quite nicely into the time of the year. We were walking a part of the Solent Way between Emsworth and Langstone and back. The Royal Oak in Langstone is always a welcome stop halfway 🙂
I’ve done this walk a few times now but never stopped and had a look at the St. Thomas a Becket Church in Warblington. The Solent Way goes across the cemetery but when the tide is low I usually prefer to walk on the beach and deviate slightly from the original Solent Way. The deviation can be a bit tricky and wet when the tide is high but exactly that got me to visit this old church.
It is not exactly know when the church was built but some of the building elements that are still there today date back to the Saxon times. However, it is also know that Warblington was once a Roman settlement and remains of Romans have been found in the church yard. It’s definitely worth a visit when you are in the area.
