London – capital, weekend trips, business and a must see for many people. What is London for you? Have you ever been there?
The first time that I went to London was in the late 90ies. It was a school trip with a one day bus tour to London. I think I was about 16, barely spoke English and didn’t like big cities. It wont come as a surprise if I now say that I didn’t like London. In fact, back then I never wanted to come back to England and now I live here. Things can change.
I’ve never really been back to London apart from the airports, changing train at Waterloo, etc. Last week I had to go back for a training course from work. It is still way to busy for me and I hate fighting my way through thousands of people but the city also has something nice about it.
I made my way from the training venue back to the hotel and rested in my room for a while. At about 8pm the hectic of the rush hour was gone and the amount of people and traffic had reduced to a for me healthy and manageable amount. I went out for some dinner, grabbed my camera and made my way from China Town and Leicester Square to the Thames, passing Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the London Eye. I had seen them all be before back in the 90ies but they look much prettier illuminated in the dark. This evening gave me a good opportunity to challenge myself with the settings of my camera to experiment with light, darkness and reflections.
