Last week’s Winter in Leiden post was only a taster for what the Dutch city has to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed living there and that pretty much all year around.
One of the things I liked were the canals. Often, I went for a walk in the evening to enjoy the reflection of all the lights in the canals. Yes, canals. It is not just Amsterdams that is full of canals, the so called ‘grachten’.
This picture was taken a few years ago, probably at the end of November or in December when all the Christmas decoration was up and lit. The bridge (De Koornbrug) is different to most other bridges as it has a roof. The roof was built to protect the corn that was traditionally traded on this bridge. These days, no corn is traded on the bridge anymore but it is a grade listed and the weekly market is built around it.
