In October 2011, I went to Lithuania and stayed in Vilnius for a couple of days. Although this trip wasn’t a just for fun trip but also for business, I had some time to go on a train trip to Trakai and spend the day there. Trakai is a small town surrounded by lakes. The town is the destination of many visitors but has managed to keep its traditional character and is simply lovely!
I walked from the train station through the town to the lake where a castle is built on an island in the lake. Many of the old houses are made of wood and painted in a lot of different colours. I love it, it looks way happier than our mostly monotone built-up areas in western Europe. The boats on the picture are another example for this.
