Todays picture shows the river Wear in Durham with the two towers of Durham Cathedral on the other side. I visited Durham a few years ago, mostly to spend some time there with a friend of mine who studied there at the time. Mid May, I was very lucky to have a very sunny long weekend up North. Everything was green and in bloom and we spent quite some time by the river, enjoying the sun, food, drink and company.
On one of the days we went to see Durham Cathedral which is of Romanesque architecture. The building started in 1093 and took a few decades until it was completed. Today, it is in an exceptional condition and well worth visiting. Climbing the stairs to the top of the tower will give you a wonderful far view over the city and the area around it.
Some of you might recognise it from the Harry Potter films as some scenes were filmed there.
