When I show this picture to people, their reaction is usually “that’s so beautiful” or “that’s so romantic”. Yes, it is but it is also so perfectly normal in Minorca. No, I don’t mean that everything is beautiful and romantic but this kind of gate is normal. The slightly bendy shape of the gate is the traditional Minorcan gate style. We’ve been to Minorca twice now and have seen a fair bit of the island but one thing I haven’t seen is a straight wooden gate. If you like hiking and explore the countryside you’ll find plenty of these gates. Some well looked after and in a good condition. Some even bendier.
This gate is close to Santo Tomas where the footpath from Es Migjorn Gran joins the coastal Cami de Caval.
